RESOLVA is assisting Bavarian Nordic with the recruitment of a Legal Counsel & Group DPO.

BN is strengthening its Legal Department and is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel & Group Data Protection Officer to support the company’s continued efforts to secure compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations and to support a growing need for legal support to the company and its activities.

The key focus for the role is to maintain and further develop BN’s GDPR compliance program and
practices and in that respect act as Group Data Protection Officer assuming the overall responsibility for
BN’s compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations.

In addition, you will be supporting the organisation in other areas of compliance, particularly competition law and anti-bribery requirements.

Drive and take responsibility for Bavarian Nordic’s data privacy compliance

A main responsibility as Legal Counsel & Group Data Protection Officer will be to drive and take overall
responsibility of the continued development, implementation, and maintenance of a suitable data
privacy program. This will include that you:

  • develop and drive an annual GDPR compliance program,
  • identify, assess, and address data privacy risks globally,
  • provide personal data protection advice to all business functions in the company,
  • manage data processors,
  • further develop the company’s documentation of GDPR compliance,
  • investigate data breaches, as needed,
  • organise training and awareness, as needed,
  • monitor and assess new privacy-related regulations, and
  • embed a continued sound GDPR mind-set across the organization.


Drive and take responsibility for other corporate compliance activities:

Additional responsibilities will be to manage other corporate compliance activities, including especially
that you will:

  • be responsible for driving competition law compliance and provide competition law advice to the
  • advise on various ad-hoc questions pertaining to anti-corruption laws and business ethics
    requirements, e.g., interactions with healthcare professionals, grants and donations,
    sponsorships, or third-party engagements,
  • advise on promotional materials and communications prepared by our marketing and medical
    affairs teams, and handle competitor complaints as needed,
  • conduct due diligence on third parties and ensure that contracts are put in place in line with
    external and internal requirements, e.g., to comply with anti-corruption laws or ESG standards,
  • prepare and conduct training in various company requirements and procedures, e.g., within
    GDPR, competition law, business ethics compliance, and contract policies,
  • develop contract templates and provide other legal support as needed.



Reporting: You will report to Legal Director Christian Vilstrup and have close
collaboration with the rest of the Legal Department as well as other internal
and external stakeholders.

Title: Legal Counsel & Group Data Protection Officer



Education: Master of law degree.

Work experience: Minimum 3-5 years of post-graduate work experience preferably from the
pharmaceutical industry or a law firm.

GDPR: Significant practical experience from a law firm or an in-house position
advising on and implementing GDPR.

General compliance: Experience and/or interest in working with other compliance areas than data
privacy, particularly competition law, sanctions and business ethics/anti-bribery.

Pharma industry: Practical experience from the pharma industry either as in-house lawyer or
external advisor in a law firm.

International: Experience with working in an international environment and proficiency in
English as this is the language in which BN communicates, internally as well
as externally.



Collaboration: Good ability to cooperate and establish relationships with different levels in
a company, including senior management level.

Communication: Clear communicator with the ability to keep things simple and clear by finding
the right balance between being detail oriented and structured.

Commercial mind-set: Sound business judgment with the ability to act fast and pragmatically and to
take decisions.

Responsible: Willing to take responsibility, set priorities, structure workflows, juggle
multiple demands and meet deadlines.

Initiative: Comfortable with taking initiative and driving a process.
