Job Description

Nordea Finance is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Regulatory to support all regulatory aspects of Nordea Finance Denmark’s four strategic business areas Equipment Finance, Retail Finance, Receivable Finance and Car Finance. You will play a valuable role in partnering with Nordea Finance’s business and corporate functions in developing the Danish operations and practices in line with regulatory requirements, and also contribute towards the same on a Nordic level. This will entail supporting the organisation within different regulatory areas, especially within financial regulation, and you will be the main “go-to” person in Nordea Finance Denmark within these areas.

As Senior Legal Counsel you will be physically located within the Danish Nordea Finance Team in Taastrup, and you will be working closely with the rest of Nordea Finance’s Legal team and the rest of Group Legal (across the Nordics). You will also cooperate with other regulatory specialists in Group Legal and have the opportunity to sit part of the time together with Group Legal DK in Nordea’s Danish headquarter in Copenhagen.

Legal Team

Nordea Finance Legal consists of two units covering Denmark & Norway and Finland & Sweden respectively. The DK & NO unit consists of 3 lawyers in Norway and 3 lawyers in Denmark that support all legal aspects of Nordea Finance’s substantial business activities and report to the Head of Nordea Finance Legal DK & NO, who is placed in Norway. Nordea Finance Legal forms part of Nordea’s central legal function, Group Legal, that consist of approx. 250 lawyers in 6 countries under the leadership of Nordea’s Group General Counsel.

The team in Nordea Finance Legal has a strong cross-country cooperation to ensure development and support of the individual lawyer. The team works as an integrated business partner that prioritises a deep understanding of Nordea Finance’s business to enable efficient advice of the highest legal quality and the ability to participate in complex business negotiations with short notice. 

Areas of responsibility

As a Senior Legal Counsel in the Danish Nordea Finance Legal team, you will be supporting Nordea Finance with advice related to financing and partnership agreements, customer cases, product terms & conditions and other business-related legal matters. You will have a particular responsibility when it comes to:

  • Advising on a broad range of regulatory topics, especially within financial regulation, e.g., on the Credit Agreements Act, AML, confidentiality and regulatory matters related to lending and recovery of debts.

  • Managing contact with public authorities such as the Danish Consumer Ombudsman and the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority with regard to a range of regulatory areas and in relation to reporting and inspections.

  • Providing specific advice on regulatory requirements related to various products, e.g. legal credit worthiness tests as required by the Danish FSA and relevant legislation.

  • Advising on broader legal aspects of Nordea Finance’s business areas, e.g. GDPR and marketing law.

  • Conducting regulatory scanning and impact assessments, and advising on implementation, both in Denmark and on a Nordic level.

Reporting to: Head of Nordea Finance Legal Denmark & Norway

Your title: Senior Legal Counsel

Ideal experience

Education: Qualified lawyer (cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur.) with min. 4 years of post-graduate experience within relevant legal areas including regulatory/compliance and financial regulation.

Credit arrangements: Knowledge of the financing industry, and practical experience with regulatory aspects of credit agreements and/or recovery of debts, leasing, factoring and/or other credit and security arrangements, e.g. from a finance company, other financial institution and/or a law firm, are an advantage.

Consumer and compliance regulations: Knowledge of specific compliance regulations relevant to financing arrangements, e.g. the Credit Agreements Act, creditworthiness requirements and standards, confidentiality requirements and GDPR regulations and/or AML regulations.

Language skills: Fluent in Danish and English (both written and spoken).

Integrity & structured approach: High integrity and a structured and analytical approach that allows commercial decision making to take place based on a fully informed regulatory basis.
