Semler Group – Privacy Counsel – POSITION FILLED

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESOLVA is assisting the Semler Group with the recruitment of a talented lawyer (cand.jur / cand.merc.jur) to take on the role as Privacy Counsel in its Privacy & Security team. As Privacy Counsel you will be working as a privacy specialist, and we are looking for a candidate with a proven track record within data privacy law / GDPR on a specialized level.

It is therefore a huge plus if you have worked in depth with data protection in practice, either in a private company, law firm, consultancy, or relevant public authority. Further, it would be excellent if you have certifications of your data protection knowledge via recognized certification schemes.

THE LEGAL TEAM

The Semler Group’s Privacy & Security team consists of 9 highly specialized full time privacy and security professionals with expertise within all areas of data privacy and data security. In addition to the Head of Privacy & Security the team includes 3 other privacy lawyers, and 5 security professionals with a non-legal background. The team is also supported by 3 part time law students.

The Privacy & Security team is headed by Head of Privacy & Security, CPO Tom John Fischer Jensen who reports to the Group CFO and Group CEO.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Your main responsibilities as Privacy Counsel will be to drive and take responsibility for a broad range of legal tasks relating to all aspects of The Semler Group’s data privacy and data security. This will effectively allow you to be exposed to all major aspects of data privacy – both from a legal perspective and from a broader security perspective. The work will include the following tasks:

  • Being a subject matter expert on GDPR who is able to advise and guide group functions (e.g. HR, Finance, Sales, Procurement and IT) and various business teams on general and specific data protection related questions,
  • Monitor changes in regulations, interpretation of national data protection laws as well as GDPR and facilitate implementation in the Semler Group, and coming legislation, such as the Data Act, AI Act etc.,
  • Participate with expert GDPR knowledge in internal projects, ensuring the compliance and regulatory concerns are sufficiently mitigated,
  • Participate in new business projects, DPIA-procedures, compliance level audits etc.,
  • Assist and consult on data breach management,
  • Develop and conduct training and awareness activities to the Group on data protection matters,
  • Serve and prioritize multiple stakeholders’ requests for guidance and support in multifaceted domains.

You are capable of striking the right balance between building relationships with key internal stakeholders whilst maintaining independence and ensuring the regulatory compliance at the level recommended by the Privacy & Security team and signed off by top management. You have business acumen and know how to balance between law and business with strong skills in interpreting and communicating complex laws and regulations to stakeholders across functions and levels.

You have good analytical skills and work structured, efficient and meet deadlines. You are execution focused and independent in providing high quality deliverables, and you have the ability to adapt to change quickly, with ever changing requirements and organizational or regulatory changes.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Education: Master of laws degree or cand.merc.jur and possibly certification within data privacy / GDPR.

Work experience: Minimum2 years of post-graduate work experience preferably from a consultancy, law firm, in-house legal, or relevant public authority. Further, experience is only an advantage.

GDPR: Minimum 2 years of specialized practical experience with advising on and implementing data privacy / GDPR.

Business acumen: You have a strong business acumen and practical experience in working independently as advisor to commercial teams / organizations, and you are able to weigh commercial considerations against relevant legal risks.

International: International mindset and fluency in English and Danish, orally and written. The main work language is Danish.

PERSONAL CAPABILITIES

Structured & analytical: Strong analytical skills and the ability to work structured and efficiently.

Collaboration: Good ability to cooperate and establish relationships within the company and externally.

Communication: Clear communicator with the ability to keep things clear and relate legal compliance to a commercial context in a practical and operational way.
